fresh air

What the heck's going on with the gas, huh?!?!? Alright- that's the only tad bit of complaining I'm going to do tonight.

I have become addicted to "So, You Think You Can Dance?" (the dance version of American Idol.) I adore this show. I watch every week... I call in and vote. I feel like quite the teenie-bopper! It's great to work hard during the day and be able to lose yourself for a half hour. It's a mental vacation - love it!

**Memo to self** Pay your GMEA dues! If you see me, remind me to do this! :o)

alrighty then...

Today was an okay day... nothing terribly exciting happened. I taught a few 6th graders how to put their instruments together... They always get an adorable grin on their faces the first time that they hold their instrument correctly. Then, I came home and went to Wal-Mart. Why is it that I can never stick to my shopping list in that store?!? Bad news for the checkbook! Oh well. I did find Apple Fanta, though. One of the girls on the colorgaurd at JC suggested that I give it a try. I hope it's good. Well - since this is officially the lamest post in the history of weblogging, I'll run on to cook dinner. Have a great evening! Holla!

I-75 and thousands of Floridians

I just got home from visiting Tim for the weekend. His birthday was Friday, so I went down for the family birthday party. It was really a nice time. I gave his little sister advice on her homecoming dress, helped his grandmother do a few dishes and talked gardening for a touch with his dad. I'm beginning to feel much more comfortable there, and I hope that his family feels just as comfortable with me around. The drive, however, was horrible! Well... maybe not horrible, but there were TONS of people heading back to Florida. (They had to evacuate because of hurricane Katrina.) Busy, busy, busy interstate!
I was just surfing around on the 'net Friday night after the game, looking for a web journal of a trumpet playing friend of mine from high school, and came across the journal of one of the high school students that I work with. It's a small internet/world out there!
Last week at school was a tad unpleasant... (lots of behavior/attitude issues that aren't really worth elaborating on...) Here's to hoping that this week is more bearable. *I will face the week with an optimistic attitude and a smile on my face... I will face the week with an optimistic attitude and a smile on my face....*

a spanking

Well... the good 'ol JC football team got SPANKED tonight! I don't know that I've ever personally witnessed such a loss in a high school football game. 69-0.... towards the end, we were all kind of hoping that the other team would hit 100 just for the novelty of it all. *sigh* At least the band did well. :o) I'm always so proud!
The beginning of the game was an adventure for me. During the pregrame show, the band forms a tunnel that the football players run through. The band plays the 2001 fanfare while the director usually holds the team back until the fightsong begins. Well, tonight, he had to go set up the video camera so I was recruited to hold back the football team. Let me tell you.... high school boys are freakin' huge to begin with. Then, add all those football pads and those boys were huge!!!!! They were jumping and grunting and doing generally scary sounding things to pump themselves up for the game. My job was really scary! They wanted to run during the 2001 fanfare really bad, and I had to physically put my hands on these humungo boys to hold them back. They could have killed me! It was quite intimidating! That was a lot of testosterone in one place!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM!!!!! I was so sad that I couldn't be with Tim on his birthday due to my band obligations. But, I'm going to see him tomorrow. It's been WAY too long since we've been able to see each other. I hate this long distance thing. I HATE IT. Maybe not too much longer.....

some days it sucks.......

I had my first truly discouraging day of the school year today.... Everything was going well until the assistant principal walked into my room with all of his bad news. I had 5 band students quit today. I keep reminding myself that this happened when I was in band too. When the class hits 7th grade, about half of the students decide that they are "too cool" for a class like band. I can't help but take it personally. What could I have done differently to make them like the class more? *sigh* Oh well. It happens. Also - I discovered that 6th grade recruiting isn't going as well as I'd planned. I'm almost 40 students short of my goal!! That's crazy! Usually, 6th graders are lined up to be in band. It's something new, something fun. But - not this year! Unless I can recruit 40 new students tomorrow night during 6th grade parents' night, I'll have to teach a 6th grade general music class (which I have NO materials for!) I'm tired....I'm discouraged... How many more days until the weekend????

lyrics that make me smile

I have come across what I think are my favorite song lyrics ever. They are from a Michael Buble song called "A Song For You," and they are beautiful!

"If my words don't quite come together, please listen to the melody
'Cause my love is in there hiding"

My birthday was great... lots of good times had. On Friday, I went to see "Fiddler on the Roof" with Tim, Matt, Lisa, Ashley and Doug. Then, we all went to Applebee's for dinner and a drink, then back to the O'Grady's house for some more talking and hanging out. It was a lot of fun.

On Sunday, my mom, dad, brother, grandmother, aunt, uncle and two cousins piled into my tiny apartment for a birthday party. It was so good to see everyone again!
