Books

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in my comments section
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

Mine is:

"Sheik Hamid had sent word that the young boys were to dance for us as they had done for the men at the end of the meal in the mudhif." (Guests of the Sheik - Elizabeth Warnock Fernea)

well..... yeah

I survived band camp (and with only one shoulder sun burned!) Camp went SOOOO well. It was 101F almost everyday, but I never heard a student complain. They maintained SUCH good attitudes!!

I go back to work in the morning. I can't believe that my summer is over. The students come back on Friday. My birthday.... The first day of school is my birthday.... YUCK!!

Spent last night at a dinner party at Lundy's house... great fun! Then, we all went to Dr. Doug and Ashley's house to hang out some more. It's great to finally have people close to my age here to hang out with. They are SO much fun!

Midnight Train to Georgia (LOVIN' IT!!!)
Gladys Knight & The Pips

L.A. proved too much for the man,
So he's leavin' the life he's come to know,
He said he's goin' back to find
Ooh, what's left of his world,
The world he left behind
Not so long ago.
He's leaving,
On that midnight train to Georgia,
And he's goin' back
To a simpler place and time.
And I'll be with him
On that midnight train to Georgia,
I'd rather live in his world
Than live without him in mine.
He kept dreamin'
That someday he'd be a star.
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true.
So he pawned all his hopes
and he even sold his old car
Bought a one way ticket
To the life he once knew,
Oh yes he did,
He said he would
Be leavin
On that midnight train to Georgia,
And he's goin' back
To a simpler place and time.
And I'll be with him
On that midnight train to Georgia,
I'd rather live in his world
Than live without him in mine.
Go, gonna board, gonna board,
Gonna board the midnight train.
Gotta go, gonna board
Gonna board
Gonna board the midnight train

Weird Home Habits

A Strange Habit in....

THE LIVING ROOM: I always turn the TV to channel 2 before I start flipping channels.

THE KITCHEN: After washing dishes, I always dry the sink with a kitchen towel.

THE BATHROOM: I always use two towels when I get out of the shower - the lighter color is always for my hair and the darker color is always for my body.

THE BEDROOM: I am most comfortable sleeping on my stomach with one foot sticking out of the sheets.

THE LAUNDRY ROOM: When I'm hanging button-up shirts, I button every other button and I use the hanger that most closely matches the color of the shirt.

We're all a little strange, eh? What are your strange habits?

Musical Happy Hour

Three notes walk into a bar: a C, an E-flat and a G. The bartender says that he doesn't serve minors. So, the E-flat leaves and the C and G have a fifth between them. (HAHA......)

Band camp starts in the morning - wish me luck!

Harry Potter and Band Camp

I just finished book 6 of the "Harry Potter" series. I am well aware that there are many people (some of my close friends included) that severely disagree with the books. I however just view them as the same thing as any other fictional work of literature - any other fairy tale/fantasy. So - don't hate me for reading them.... Anyway, to those of you that have read the series, I just wanted to share my shock with the events that unfolded in book 6. Whoa there!

Rookie Band camp concluded this afternoon. The new marching band members are going to be great, I think! Tons of spirit, good marching skills, and trombone players that aren't afraid to play out! Can't beat that! Full Band camp is next week - better go find my sun screen!

*Thanks for the memories....*

I don't usually do stuff like this, but it might be neat:

If you read this, you should post a memory of me.
It can be anything you want...good or bad
...just so long as it happened.

Post this to your journal to see what people remember about you...

Interesting Facts

I found a page of nothing but odd facts.... I couldn't resist sharing a few of my favorites. Prepare to be amazed!

*About 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens each year.

*On average, every chocolate bar contains at least three insect legs.

*Almost" is the longest word in the English language with all the letters in alphabetical order.

*It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with.

*A fetus acquires fingerprints at the age of three months.

*A monkey was once tried and convicted for smoking a cigarette in South Bend, Indiana.

*A pig's orgasm lasts for 30 minutes

*A single share of Coca-Cola stock, purchased in 1919, when the company went public, would have been worth $92,500 in 1997.

*Al Gore and Tommy Lee Jones were once roommates.

*At age 47, the Rolling Stones' bassist, Bill Wyman, began a relationship with 13-year old Mandy Smith, with her mother's blessing. Six years later, they were married, but the marriage only lasted a year. Not long after, Bill's 30-year-old son Stephen married Mandy's mother, age 46. That made Stephen a stepfather to his former stepmother. If Bill and Mandy had remained married, Stephen would have been his father's father-in-law and his own grandpa.

*Because metal was scarce, the Oscars given out during World War II were made of wood.

Have a great day! ~L

I'm going to be a chef

I'm at home for the weekend... just got home from church where Britt gave the sermon today. (For those of you that don't know, my little brother is a rhetoric major interning to be a youth minister. He gives sermons occasionally in the teen service at church and I'm always SO proud and moved! This boy has found his calling!!) I'm about to attempt Chicken Pasta Milano - a "Tim Recipie." Wish me luck...

Air Mail

I got a postcard all the way from London today. :o) Thanks, Joy! You're the coolest!

Old Friends and Good Times

Tim and I spent last night with some friends from college. (It makes me feel kinda old to say that... *hmmm*) Courtney and Gator just got married in June and wanted to share their new home through a dinner party! We had a blast! It was cute seeing Courtney acting all domestic - cooking soups and cakes and the such. (It was all very tasty!) Then, we went out for a boat ride on Lake Oconee. It was nice and cool out with a beautiful sunset. Good times were had by all. I'm so happy for them!

The Bearded Lady

I saw something truly bizarre the other day at Wal-Mart, and I had to share. Tim and I were waiting to check out and he tapped me on the shoulder. "Lori, that lady has a beard!" I laughed at him, thinking he was trying to be funny and then I turned and saw a woman with a goatee. I'm not talking a little peach fuzz on her chin, I'm talking about a 1.5" long goatee.... It was strange. I believe that if my hair problem was that bad, I could find something to do about it. Wow.

Home, sweet ho.... WHAT THE HECK?!?

Trouble and More Trouble (better known as Tango and Samba destructive kitties from you know where) are tearing up everything! They're so hyperactive... I know they're just playing, but they knock everything over - and they don't clean up after themselves! ;o) *I will survive the kitten phase...I will survive the kitten phase....* It's always a challenge walking in the front door. I never know what to expect!

Anyway - I went to Six Flags Amusement Park yesterday with Tim and his brother, Mikee and his sister, Catie. We had a BLAST! Tim and I rode the "Mindbender", my all-time favorite roller coaster, 6 times! It had rained early in the day, so that kept the bulk of the crowd away. It was overcast and breezy... a perfect Six Flags day!

*ugh* My head is aching! Where's the advil?

Camps, Vacations and hours sleeping in a car....

Hi! I'm SOOOO glad to be home! {Well, I'm still at my parents' house - heading back to the apt. this afternoon, but I'm finally back in good 'ole GA!)

Camp went really well! The group of low brass players that I worked with was really young, but the worked so hard and did a fantastic job at the concluding concert!

Vacation was a lot of fun. My family spent five days cooped up together in the Jeep and we didn't argue or fight and there was a lot of laughing! That's awesome!
Here are some highlights from the trip:

-the first Kentucky Fried Chicken ever/Harland Sanders Cafe (Corbin, KY)
-McHargue's Mill Library of Mountain Mill Stones (Levi Jackson St. Park-London, KY)
-Kentucky Music Hall of Fame (Renfro Valley, KY)
-Kentucky's Arts and Crafts Capital (Berea, KY)
-Wildcat Mountain Civil War Battlefield (Wildcat Mountain, KY)
-Flea Land - Kentucky's Largest Flea Market (London, KY)
-WWII P-38 Plane Restoration Museum "Glacier Girl" (Middlesboro, KY)
-The Lost Sea (Sweetwater, TN)
-Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater, Sharks! in 3D (Chattanooga, TN)
-Chickamagua Civil War Battlefield (Chickamagua, TN/GA)

For those of you that know me well, you're probably laughing out loud at this "out there" list of places that we visited.... not usually my cup of tea, and you can tell that my dad planned the trip! However, most of it was really interesting. And, it was cool to learn about things that my Dad finds so interesting. So - if you're ever looking to take a "Civil War/Flea Market/WWII" vacation in the Tennessee/Kentucky area - I can set you up!

Sooooo glad to be home. I hope that the kittens didn't eat my whole house! (Thanks Tim and Catie for feeding them while I was gone!!)
