Teacher of the Month

I just found out today that I am the CRMS Teacher of the Month. Fun times! That means I get a cool designated parking space, a free dinner certificate, a t-shirt and a pencil. (Hey, I'm all about pencils!) Not to gloat, but, yay for me! :o)

Shakespeare does a little dancin'

The Hokey Pokey as written by William Shakespeare

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within

Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.

Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:

Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.

Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,

A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.

To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke.

Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.

The Hoke, the poke*banish now thy doubt

Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

Ghost Riders in the Sky

Ahhh.... It's Friday. Somehow, no matter what kind of day you've had - when you walk out the door on your way home on a Friday afternoon the sky looks bluer, the grass looks greener, the air smells sweeter. I love that feeling of freedom - knowing that I have a day or two to myself. (or mostly to myself) I can do what I want. Whatever I want - I can watch DVD's to my heart's content - I can catch up on my letter writing - I can teach myself to cook some fabulous dish... even if laundry is piling up and I really ought to wash the dishes. It's time for me to do something for ME. Topic Change... I have a gig tomorrow night with the dance band that I play in - "Georgia Rhythm." It's some engagement party out at the county club; so that'll be an adventure. Seven to midnight - but hey - can't beat lousy musicians pay and the free meal that we get to eat in the kitchen. *heh* There's something about playing for people that I just love. It's a rush unlike any other - working so hard on something, then seeing someone enjoy it so much. I felt it in the 6th grade at my first band concert. I felt it while on stage outside of a castle in the Czech Republic. I feel it playing at these engagement parties - seeing the couple smile as they dance to the music that you're playing for them. And now - I get to experience it in a whole new way as I conduct my young musicians through their first experiences playing their instruments for people. I love seeing my students' nervous smiles and shaky hands. I love seeing their faces fill with pride as their families and friends give them a standing ovation (even though they barely squeaked through a really simplified version of "Jingle Bells".) Ahh... life is good.

Atlanta, GA

Ahh - makes me miss home a little.... :o)

This is for anyone who lives in Atlanta, who has ever lived in Atlanta, has
visited Atlanta, ever plans to visit Atlanta, knows anyone who lives in
Atlanta, knows anyone who has ever visited Atlanta or anyone who has ever
heard of Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta is composed mostly of one way streets. The only way to get out of
downtown Atlanta is to turn around and start over when you reach Greenville,
South Carolina. All directions start with, "Go down Peachtree" and include
the phrase, "When you see the Waffle House." Except that in Cobb County, all
directions begin with, "Go to the Big Chicken and..." Peachtree Street has
no beginning and no end and is not to be confused with Peachtree Circle,
Peachtree Place, Peachtree Lane, Peachtree Road, Peachtree Parkway,
Peachtree Run, Peachtree Trace, Peachtree Ave, Peachtree Commons Peachtree
Battle, Peachtree Corners, New Peachtree, Old Peachtree, West Peachtree,
Peachtree-Dunwoody, Peachtree-Chamblee, or Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Atlantans only know their way to work and their way home. If you ask anyone
for directions they will always send you down Peachtree.

Atlanta is the home of Coca-Cola. That's all we drink here, so don't ask for
any other soft drink unless it's made by Coca-Cola. And even then it's still
"Coke." A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola, or pop...it's a Coke,
regardless of brand or flavor. Example: "What kinda coke you want?"

The 8:00 AM rush hour is from 6:30 to 10:30 AM. The 5:00 PM rush hour is
from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday afternoon, and
lasts through 2:00 AM Saturday.

"Sir" and "Ma'am" are used by the person speaking to you if there's a remote
possibility that you're at least 30 minutes older than they are.

The fall of a raindrop makes everyone forget all traffic rules. If a single
snowflake falls, the city is paralyzed for three days, and it's on all the
TV channels and radio stations as a news flash every 15 minutes for a month.
All the grocery stores will be sold out of milk, bread, bottled water,
toilet paper, and beer. If there is a remote chance of snow, and if it does
snow, people will be on the corner selling "I survived the blizzard"
tee-shirts, not to mention the fact that all schools will close at the
slightest possible chance of snow.

The pollen count is off the national scale for unhealthy, which starts at
120. Atlanta is usually in the 2,000 to 4,000 range. All roads, vehicles,
houses - everything - is yellow from March 28th to July 15th. If you have
any allergies, you will die. But other than that, it's a great place to
live!

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Georgia.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Georgia, plus a couple
no one's ever seen before.

It is not a shopping cart, it's a buggy.

The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but need
6 pages for local gossip and sports.

You know whether another Georgian is from north Georgia, south Georgia or
middle Georgia as soon as they open their mouth (Albany = All benny)

Sweet Tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're
2.

Pops frying the turkey on Thanksgiving

My brother, Britt, watching the turkey cook on Thanksgiving

My Mom's dog, Amos - isn't he a cutie?

The crew that played at Tim's recital: Corey on Tuba, Greg on Trumpet, Me on Trombone, Courtney on Horn, James on Trumpet and Tim on Trumpet (down front)

Welch's Makes My Mouth Smile

I survived GMEA and the freak ice storm that covered Georgia. What is it this year with the freaky weather? Geez! My apartment lost power...AGAIN, and I'm really starting to worry about the rickety old pine tree right in front of my building. It lost like 12 huge limbs during the storm - one of which managed to tear up my balcony on its way down... Anyway - I just got some pictures back... I'll post a few. (Happy one year and three month anniversary to Tim!)
