Wow.... I suck.

I've really sucked it up at the blogging thing lately, huh? Maybe I'll try again. Think I'll have anything worth reading to say? Perhaps. Think anyone will actually read? Probably not. We'll see what happens.

Holy Schnikees!

It's been almost two years. Am I a blog-writing loser, or what? Geez!

Highlights:

-Haven't killed any middle school students, so I still have my job. Yay!
-Married! Tim and I were married on 07/07/07 along with 45 million other people. I TOTALLY think that I was the first one to choose that date, though!

Well, those are the highlights. I'll try to do better........

...

Been a while... yeah - sorry 'bout that.

Life has been hectic, you know how it goes.

Let me catch you up:

-worked a summer band camp at GC&SU - had a blast!
-went to Florida to visit my brother who was down there interning at a summer Christian camp
-went to New York to meet Tim's family - LOVE THEM!
-started the '06-'07 school year

It's the last that has me concerned. I've been feeling less than thrilled about my job lately. Things just aren't going as I had envisioned them and I'm feeling pretty discouraged. And, I really just don't know what to do to make things better. Hmmm....

And, to top it all off, I feel so old! I turn 25 on Saturday. I know, I know... that doesn't really sound old, but it's a quarter of a century! Then, to top it off, at open house the other night, I had a parent asking questions about the upcoming wedding, which didn't bother me, until the following exchange took place:

Man: "Well, Ms. Johnson, I was just wondering why you waited so long to get married."
Me: "Waited so long? We'd only been dating two years. That's not that long."
Man: "Well, what I meant was, you're not getting any younger, you know."

WHAT THE CRAP?!? Who in their right mind talks to a WOMAN that way?!? (Alright- guys that read this...... NEVER tell a woman that she's "not getting any younger!!!!")

Isn't there a weekend coming up?

Father's Day

In the spirit of Father's Day, I thought I'd share some of my favorite memories of my Dad.

I remember going to the movie theater and sitting on Dad's lap to watch the Sesame Street movie, "Follow that Bird." (The movie came out in 1985 - and it's still great! I actually have it on DVD...)

I remember my dad playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for me millions of times on guitar - trying to sing.

I remember Dad making my brother and I breakfast EVERY morning in elementary school. And - he always did something silly, like running around the kitchen holding waffles over his eyes. :o) (And - he never used enough chocolate in the milk, did he, Britt?)

I remember that when I got my first car, I put a strawberry air freshener in there. The first time that he rode with me, he told me that my car smelled like a brothel. (I still don't know how he knows that! )

I remember that when I was Drum-Major in high school, and he was the parent "equipment guy", he wouldn't let anyone else set up my podium for me - he always did.

And, I remember that this year, when I called to ask Mom what he wanted for Father's Day she told me that my Nascar-watchin', deer huntin', woodworking Dad wanted a Snow Cone Machine. (What the?!? *shrugs* Okay.....)

So - Sunday after church, my family will be having cherry snow-cones. Want one?

Happy Father's Day, Pops!

dresses

I tried on my first wedding dress today. Let me tell you - strange feeling! I mean, I know that I'm getting married, but somehow that made it more real. Wow. Something about the formal wear undergarments with the nine MILLION little hooks that you have to have an army of help to get in and out of made me giggle like the girly-girl that I never thought I'd be. Again... Wow.

Strange, strange, strange....

Very odd dreams lately. I wonder what they mean.

Deer in the Headlights

What exactly is it that God's creatures hold against me? Huh?

Why did my stupid cat pee on my shoe?!? Huh????

Why did that deer tonight feel that it needed to crush in the side of my car? Huh???

I mean, seriously Deer... what did my car do to you? That's right, NOTHING! My sweet little car has spent its whole life trying to avoid hitting you and your species. Yet, you decide that my car deserves to be punished, eh? I sure hope that you're planning on paying my insurance deductable you dumb ass Odocoileus virginianus! *sigh*

My Hopes for our Friendship

I hope that our friendship can be a source of comfort to you...

...like a blanket to wrap around you when you're cold.
...like a pillow for you to use to rest your head.
...like arms to hold you when you're weary and feeling alone.
...like a handkerchief to catch your tears.

I hope that our friendship can be a source of strength to you...

...like sunshine when you need warmth in your life.
...like music that soothes your emptiness and fills a lonely place.
...like a meal when you're hungry and want to eat.
...like a shoulder when you need something to lean on.

I hope our friendship can be a source of love to you...

...like someone who offers praise and never pressure.
...like someone who is there to talk to when you need to talk.
...like someone who is there for you to be whatever it is you need.
...like someone who loves you just the way you are.

I hope our friendship can be a source of certainty for you that you always have someone on your side...

...to give you hope that there is a way through everything.
...to give you confidence that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
...to be a voice that says, "Congratulations! You've made it!"
...to share with you every challenge, every joy, every trial in your life.

Jazz Band Rocks my Socks

I'm sitting in with the JCHS jazz band this season. The talent in that group amazes me. Eighteen year old kids who hold more passion for music and their instruments than half of the people that I studied music with in college........ Yay for them!

The band I conduct is holding its concert next Monday. I am SO ready for it to be over. Middle School age peformers have no concept of how absolutely stressful organizing this kind of event can be.

26 more school days (with students...I go a week past that) I will survive!

What have I gotten myself into?

Sunday, April 09, 2006

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can be great."
-Mark Twain-

"Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, 'This is the real me,' and when you have found that attitude, follow it."
-William James-

Just a few of my favorites....

Happy Palm Sunday, everyone.

OVER

Well, these are my last few precious hours of Spring Break....
*crying out over-dramatically*
I'LL MISS YOU SPRING BREAK!! HURRY BACK!!

"Do not waste time bothering whether you 'love' your neighbor; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him."
-C.S. Lewis-

Tim and I planted my "balcony garden" for this spring. It's so pretty! Flowers everywhere! There are Gerbera Daisies, Snapdragons, Petunias, Begonias, Violets, and tons more that I can't remember. I sure hope that my "black thumb" doesn't kill them!
